概要：2006年度に行われた群馬県自然環境調査研究会による学術調査（群馬県自然環境課よりの委託事業。石川は調査員および報告書編集・監修役として参加）の報告書。群馬県榛名山西部地域（自然保護上の事由により正確な地名は非公開とされている）において、植物相、植生の調査を行い、9タイプの植生のおよび102科639種のシダ・種子植物の生育を確認した。また当地域において、多数の絶滅危惧植物・希少種の生育も確認した。この報告により、当該地域が人間による伝統的な山間地農法によって、非常に高い生物多様性を長年維持ししていることを明らかにした。今後、群馬県の自然環境保護政策の策定・実施の基礎資料となる。

概要：This is a case study for clarifying the influence of human actions on the spread of alien plant species.  Some decays ago, an alien tree, Robinia pseudo-acacia was planted intensively in Asio mine area (at the upper stream of Watarase river) to re-forest the "death-mountains" which was caused by the past mine activity.  At the same time, Kusagi dam was set at the upper stream of the river to reserve water and reduce natural flooding.  After such human actions, R. pseudo-acacia was found to invade the Watarase riparian area widely.  We surveyed this riparian area (about 60 km from Asio to Kiryu at middle stream of Watarase river) in 2004 and found 61 sites where R. pseudo-acacia trees were growing vividly.  In the river front area in Kiryu, many big and pure forests of R. pseudo-acacia were found.  In these big forest, soil nitrogen content was about 3 times higher than that in other vegetations, and light intensity in the understory was quite low comparable to that under dense grass vegetations.  Such environmental conditions may restrict inhabitation of native plant species, because plant species diversity in the R. pseudo-acacia forests was found to be quite low.  In March 2005, some R. pseudo-acacia forests in Kiryu were clear-cut.  However, the stumps made so many new buds and root suckers within one year, and, consequently, the R. pseudo-acacia forests strike back.  In April and December 2006, we cut all the stems revived from the 20 stumps and found that such reciprocal cutting suppress growth of R. pseudo-acacia trees and, in some cases, cause death of the trees.  Seed germination experiment revealed that the seeds of R. pseudo-acacia must be scarified to absorb water, and, after scarification, the germination ratio was quite high (over 90%).  In the middle stream area, sometimes flooding was made artificially to protect Kusagi dam from destruction by excessive rainfall, and this artificial flooding may cause the scarification on the seeds and spread the germinable seeds, the roots with root suckers, and the trunks with many new buds widely in Kiryu.
